Clive became a Christian at the age of 16 from an unchurched background and spent 27 years in local Baptist church ministry from 1985-2012 when he left the pastorate to take up the call to teach the Bible primarily in East Africa.  He spends around six months of the year teaching at the Uganda Baptist Seminary where he is was visiting Professor of Church History until December 2015 when he was invited to join the Faculty as Deputy Principal for Academic Affairs.  In February 2020, he passed this responsibility onto a colleague in Africa freeing up time for research and is currently preparing a book on Baptist History and Principles for publication in 2021.  He is also writing on the Life of St. Paul from an historical perspective and a book on Preaching and Pastoring in collaboration with a professorial colleague from Germany.

UBS has students from nine East African countries from across the denominations, though the majority are Baptist and Pentecostal.  The college has around 400 full time students who undertake three, one-month long residential terms annually and some 2,500 students in more local bible schools.  It is currently a requirement that students are active in church leadership throughout their training and around 70% are pastors. Many of the pastors from rural setting have little formal education not completing even the very basic primary education available in Uganda.  Such students begin on the Certificate programme and it can take them 10 years to work their way to finally completing the Bachelors Degree programme.

Clive served for some years as a member of the European Baptist Federation Council and has wide ranging contacts across Europe and the Middle East; and also on the Baptist Union Council in the UK.  He is a graduate of London, Lancaster and Glasgow Universities and London Bible College (now the London School of Theology).  He is passionately committed to the ministry of the gospel and is as convinced, as ever he was, of the hope that Jesus Christ offers to all, who find faith in him as, ‘…the Way, the Truth and the Life.’

      Hi Enrico,

I also remember you. Am I right to think you came with your daughter? The name Anna comes to mind but I am sorry if that is wrong. I send you the Lord’s greetings at this special time of year and hope and pray you and your family are well and not suffering from this terrible pandemic. Many Blessings. Clive

It’s nice to be missed. Glad the Cambodia Trip went well hope you got a lot out of it. Love to you all.

      Clive

      • It was truly life changing. I gave a talk to 80 people about the trip on Wednesday last, with a power point presentation, would never have had the courage to do that before I went. Other than the heat, the worst thing was feeling quite lonely while I was there. I missed friends and family. Much love to you all, Angela.
